I started dancing at the age of 2 at a local school in Basildon, I competed in local and national dance competitions winning many medals and trophies and was a 1st place winner at the finals of the "All England".
I was also lucky enough as a child to appear in the West End at the London Palladium for the Christmas Pantomime season of 1971 in “Babes in the Woods”. We moved to Canvey Island when I was eleven where I trained with Karen Jones. I studied in ISTD tap, modern and ballet and continued to participate in Competition.
At the age of 16 I studied with Pearl Ray and completed my exams to advance two modern and tap and to intermediate ballet. I furthered my teaching qualifications with Karen King at the Centre of Performing Arts where I obtained Associate Diploma status. I opened DDTST back in 1982 the school has been open for the past thirty five years, it was quite small back then, as it grew more teachers were employed to cater for the increase in genres.
In 2013 I developed a partnership with Newham College of Further Education to offer free tuition to students under the age of 24 to gain their teaching qualifications with the ISTD . We are now into our third year we offer level three and four courses in Modern and Tap and hope to be able to increase the delivery of ballet in the near future.
I still teach from babies through to our Senior students in tap, modern, ballet, and acrobatics, I continue to choreograph for competition and shows. I regularly attend courses to ensure that I am up to date with the ISTD syllabuses. I also run the DDS Casting Agency which is very successful and am Chair-person of our Board.
